VISION
Queer Ministry supports the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in religious spaces by targeting hate, abuse, discrimination & colonial impacts on theology. At Queer Ministry, we believe trans and queer people are divine and must be restored to our proper places within the church to complete the body of Christ. We believe bias distorts God’s love and message, meaning we cannot serve God if we serve bias. God is not a respecter of persons, but moves via the Spirit with accuracy and gentleness. Every person has the right to participate in spiritual communities without bias, discrimination or violence.
At Queer Ministry, God is not viewed as a gendered being of patriarchy and white supremacy's manufacturing. We worship the Creator, Healer, and Provider of the Universe, also known as the unchanging and eternal One True Living God. We praise God as the Liberator from oppression and the Boundary of Consent. We view God as the unwavering frequency of all things Joyful, Good, Just, Kind, True, Peaceful, Whole and Merciful.
Queer Ministry is firmly grounded in the life, ministry, resurrection, and salvation of Jesus Christ. While Christian Nationalists commodify the image of Jesus, we come with the Power of Jesus to love, heal, resurrect, and liberate all people oppressed by community, religious, and state violence.
We acknowledge and honor all divine creations of God that labor for the Kingdom of Heaven in the past, present, and future: every particle, atom, molecule, mineral, nutrient, organism, plant, land, animal, angel, ancestor, guide, person, community. Amen.
MISSION
Queer Ministry provides spiritual services, education, and programs to LGBTQ+ people and our allies. We recieve prayer requests, offer prayer candles, and schedule spirit sessions as forms of one-on-one support. We develop and facilitate trainings and workshops to share theology and best practices for LGBTQ+ inclusion in religious spaces.
By unpacking, divesting, and healing colonial frameworks within theology, Queer Ministry will foster a non-denominational Christian-grounded spiritual community that is centered on a Black, Nonbinary, Queer, Femme perspective.
Queer Ministry supports LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized people in spiritual settings by targeting hate, discrimination, abuse, state violence, and colonial impacts on theology, such as transphobia, racism, misogyny, anti-Blackness, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, capitalism, ableism, and adultism.
HISTORY
Queer Ministry was founded by Janeé Nealey in October of 2019 to combat the lack of Trans and Queer leadership in religious spaces. Starting out, Queer Ministry leveraged its social media network to connect with individuals healing religious trauma. Janeé began hosting one-on-one sessions with folks who wanted to question, cry, or just be in space with someone who understood the bittersweet complexity of loving God in queerness. Queer Ministry's first public community offering took form as the P.O.W.E.R. Series, which highlighted wisdom from overlooked community members: a nonbinary reiki healer, a career sex worker, and a body positive dance coach. After this debut, Janeé began to facilitate community workshops at the intersections of transness, theology, liberation, and pleasure.
Queer Ministry is a volunteer-run organization, powered by the help of regular, every day folks pouring our passion into people. Every click, share, second, cent, and participation counts.
Professionally, Janeé is a diversity, equity, and inclusion educator who joyfully assists K-12 school districts, libraries, and community organizations on sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, and education justice. Janeé has fully embraced their calling as a healer, community educator, and repairer of generational breaches. They are Black, Queer, Nonbinary & a Child Sexual Assault Survivor. Despite the endless reasons society may reject Janeé, God shows them tender love and adoration. They come in the power of Jesus Christ to have authority over all devils, to cure diseases, to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. Janeé would be nothing without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the love of their communities, the wisdom of their Ancestors, and the protection of their Angels.
